On the Mat (quick !) : Ultra Violet

I haven't posted In a while (well, probably only a month!), so here is a quick Q and A with the enticing Ultra Violet from The London Wrestling Studio, http://www.londonwrestlingstudio.co.uk/, who as well as possessing one of the best names in the business, has a growing reputation alongside a growing fan base. A perfect mix of fun and menace ?

So how did you get recruited for LWS ? Were you looking for fighting work?
UV: Literally typed in 'not boring jobs' and on an article found a 6 year old post Honey wrote recruiting for girls

It says on your profile that you are an “experienced kickboxer”. So besides wrestling, do you offer kickboxing and other things ?
Yes I love to kick and punch I guess I offer all sorts but I tend to just be asked to wrestle

Everyone remembers their first wrestling session.  How did yours go ?
My first session im pretty sure i kept on getting put in kimuras or arm bars i cant quite remember, it was a frustrating but great fun.

I know some girls like to keep their wrestling activities a secret – are you okay with people knowing or do you prefer to keep it private?
Yeah everyone knows I wrestle i think, the people that matter don't mind and the people that mind can go fuck themselves

Does your name reflect your personality ? Menace and sweetness ?
Ha i never thought of it like that but that is very accurate  of my personality, was considering Ultra Violence first but I think i come across as too cute!

I take it you have a day job – would you ever want to grapple full-time, or do you think that would be difficult as the scene has many wrestlers?
I am a student currently, i wouldn't mind being a full time wrestler at all. If the work in the U.K was thin i would perhaps visit a european country france/Germany and session there

It seems to be getting pretty congested in London – lots of different places offering wrestling .  I’ve heard some stories about there being rivalry between particular organisations there. How has it been for you ?
There is a fantasy element to our industry and I think in this case it is more the blokes imagining things. No rivalries other than business is business

I imagine you are often asked to do wrestling video work and a lot of companies often feature topless or nude matches which can be quite lucrative. Is that something you might consider or are you focused on competitive fighting ?
I dont judge anyone for doing that but i'm too shy and there's nothing worse than looking awkward and uncomfortable.

You’ve got some great sexy photos on Twitter. Do you think wrestling has a glamorous side to it?
I think it's more that the women themselves are sexy and glamorous not exactly the industry

In your experience so far, have there been any downsides to the wrestling sessions?
id be lying if i said no but i'd be unprofessional if i said specificities. there are much more upsides, i'm truly glad to have met my colleagues

What are you plans for the rest of the year – in LWS and outside.
Perhaps travelling abroad to wrestle but Uni work is very hectic as of late

Finally, what do you do to unwind away from the mat?
I think its more a case of I use the mats to unwind from day to day life!

On the Mat : Dynamo

It's a real pleasure to have a great, detailed interview with Dynamo (www.wrestlingdynamo.com), who was more than happy to open up about her wrestling life(style) and give an insight into her personal history, fetish modelling and the growth in female wrestling. This is one of the best !

Although based in the south of England, she is guest appearing at the fantastic Wrestling Factory's March Decade-dence show :

I've already booked my session with her - can't wait ! However, until then read on..............:

You’ve been wrestling since 2008 – how did it all start for you?
Dynamo : I come from a martial arts background and have a black belt in TaeKwonDo, a friend ran a wrestling club and asked me if I would be interested in trying out wrestling, I thought why not, so I went along and gave it a go and never looked back.  The club I was with soon dissipated and through the contacts I had made I decided to go independart.  It was tough going and hard work but I built a list of regular clients and through shows I made a good go of it and have now appeared in multiple clips, shows, videos and magazines.

At what stage did you think that you could do this as “a job” and get paid for something you enjoy ?
It happened fairly soon after I started, I was offered money for session wrestling and thought if I can get paid doing it then why not.  I train hard so why not make some pocket money out of it too.

Several female wrestlers (including yourself) do fetish modelling as well as wrestling – why do you think that is? Do you think the two go together?
I learnt early on that session wrestling is a huge fetish, I was doing some wrestling clips for a client and he was also a photographer, He asked me to do some promo shots and then asked me to do some glamour style, I was kind of hooked.  I met a few models who worked in different genres of modelling but because of my age (the wrong side of 30) I thought I was far too old.  However, I met some very interesting people who made me rethink and give it a go.  I sort of fell into fetish modelling as that's where I was most comfortable, I do other styles as well and am versatile but my heart lies with fetish modelling.

You have your own wrestling studio now – Dee’s Wrestling Den in Wokingham . What made you decide to have your own place and how has it been so far?It was in the back of my mind for a long while, I was constantly travelling to London for sessions and after 2 hours travelling each way and then if you get a no show it was a long day for nothing.  I very much enjoy working in London but just wanted somewhere a little closer to home so I could do more late sessions and last minute bookings, and of course it meant I didn't have to work around other wrestlers bookings and be more flexible.  My studio is a multi purpose studio and was primarily opened as a playspace for me to work from in all my areas.  Modelling, Domming and wrestling.  It has spiralled and is now a very successful photography studio, a dungeon where myself and another mistress works from and a mat room where I can train and hold sessions, events and filming.  It has been a massive success that I could never have imagined.

I often wrestle at Pippa’s in Manchester as it is the closest to where I like.  What are the best or most memorable places you have wrestled at (besides your own place of course !)
Its hard to say as each venue has its own merits.  Pippa's is of course one of the best as it has such variety with the ring and mat rooms.  But I just as much enjoy working at Monica's and Pippa the Rippas in London.  I have also recently been working in Birmingham at TC wrestling and he has a fantastic venue to work and film from.

There seem to be so many girls offering wrestling nowadays – why do you think this is, and does this mean it’s more difficult for people to get session work ?
I think its because some girls have in their heads its easy money, its actually so far from the truth! Which is why a lot of the girls now don't hang around long.  It does it make it harder to get sessions but I still have a long list of regulars who come back time and time again to keep me busy.  You'll soon find as a session wrestler that your reputation means everything and that takes years to build up and that's why people book.  Doing events, shows, filming and marketing yourself is very important.  However, some girls don't want to put the leg work in and that's why they don't last in the industry.

You don’t offer topless or nude matches, but several companies feature nude and topless matches for video download. Have you ever considered doing this or do you prefer to keep it more focussed on wrestling ?
I have done topless wrestling for several companies, however I only do it with female wrestlers.  I have never done or ever will do nude wrestling as even though I do nude modelling, I don't work to open leg levels, I just wouldn't feel comfortable nude wrestling and would rather concentrate on my wrestling than who can see what I had for lunch lol.  I don't offer topless mixed wrestling as again I just don't feel comfortable with it and I believe everyone has their own ideas and levels and shouldn't go past them purely for money.

With this in mind, have you seen a change since you started in the type of girls who begin wrestling i.e. those who are models first and then do some fetish wrestling, and those who have done, for example, Taewondo (like you) and put the competitive wrestling side first ? Or has it always been like this?
Oh there are definitely more models on the wrestling scene now than when I started.  I think that it's so much more popular now than it was several years ago that more models are being introduced to it and doing filming work.  I also see models do more fantasy style work than competitive work.  Face sitting is very popular and even though not strictly wrestling it is incorporated a lot into sessions.  It's nice to see a girl come onto the scene though who is willing and eager to put in the ground work and build herself up, to progress to a stage where she becomes a well respected and known wrestler.  One name in particular springs to mind, Axa Jay, she has worked hard and earned the respect.  She has come on in leaps and bounds in the part year and I really love seeing that.

What do you personally enjoy about wrestling ?
I personally love the rush I get from wrestling, it gives me confidence and has built up my strength and fitness.  For the domination side of things I love to be in control and it gives me a sense of being in control of another person.  I'm naturally very competitive and find this gives me a controlled environment to be like that.

You offer a range of matches, but which kind do you as a competitor like the most ?
It depends what kind of mood I'm in, sometimes I just love a good tussle which makes me work hard and gives a great adrenaline rush.  Other times I feel more playful and enjoy a fantasy style session.  It depends on who the client is as well as I have become good friends with a lot of them and know the exact kind of session they want.

With mixed wrestling,  besides men being (usually) stronger than women, what other differences do you find ? Also, do you have a preference?
Actually I find the women are much more competitive than men, especially if they are new on the scene as maybe they think they have something to prove by beating an established wrestler.  Unfortunately that's where most injuries also occur.  If I have a match with a female wrestler who has been trained and knows what she is doing I much prefer that, even if I lose.  When I have mixed matches its normally a matter of technique to beat them.  Of course most men are naturally strong but even that's useless when you have them in an armbar ;-)

Away from the mat, what do you do to unwind ?
I don't have much time to unwind, with running the studio, modelling, wrestling and being a pro domme, any time I do have I like to spend with my husband and kids.  Mind you, both kids are teenagers now so they have a better social life than me!  I do however have a monthly massage and facial which is 'my time' :-)

Do you have an wrestling or fetish events lined up at the moment ?
I will be in Manchester for Pippa's event in March which I always look forward too.  I have a new girl starting soon which I am about to start to train.  The studio is very busy with different projects going on and I am going to do some fantastic collaborations this year with various people so 2014 will be an exciting year.

Lastly, why should people book a session with you ?
If you session with me I can guarantee you laughs, I am bubbly and thoroughly enjoy my sessions.  I like to make them fun and am versatile to your levels of ability.  I am told I have strong thighs and love to tease my clients with them.  I love a good banter and work hard to ensure every session is enjoyable.

On the Mat : Venom

Females wrestlers invariably have a pseudonym which should give their opponents an idea of the type of person they are taking on. Think of those you know - which names come to mind and which names do you think match the type of wrestler they are ? One of the names that has always stuck in my mind is Venom : a 2-syllable poisonous, sometimes lethal, noun, that is presented to us in the guise of a skillful, pretty, experienced fighter.

So, I started by asking Venom about her name............

I gather that many girls choose certain “stage” names because they are close to their “real” name, but I get the impression that your moniker relates to your fighting skills………….
Venom : Yes anyone who has been on the receiving end will tell you I can be quite deadly, but I don't use brute strength I like to trap people in bad positions and feel them struggle.

So how did you discover a love for all things fighting ?
I always beat the crap out of my little brother growing up haha but it got serious when I started training muay Thai and Brazilian jiujitsu when I was about 19.

Is this still a hobby for you or do you see this as your “job” ?
Its a bit of both but I also have a full time day job for a charity saving the world!

Several female wrestlers do fetish modelling as well as wrestling – is this something that interests you?
Its not something I have explored much yet but in the future who knows. Most of my pictures show off my sportier side.

You describe yourself as a “professional martial artist” with experience in a variety of different fighting formats. With this in mind, do you think those who offer fantasy wrestling or facesitting sessions as “lessening”wrestling as an professional form?
I enjoy fantasy sessions occasionally, it's fun dressing up and acting out a scrip. I don't think face sitting is wrestling it's more a fetish for guys interested in being humiliated and controlled by hot women.

What are the best or most memorable places you have wrestled at ?
Wrestling in new work for Doommaidens and femwin was great fun! I'll be back over there in March. Pippas shows at the wrestling factory are always a good gig too, it feels more dramatic in the ring!

There seem to be so many girls offering wrestling nowadays – how does this affect your attitude to what you do?
I'm confident in my ability and still undefeated in female or mixed matches. Most people are surprised that off the mat I'm quite a chilled relaxed person but fighting brings out my inner bad ass!

What do you personally get out of wrestling – is winning everything ?
I won't lie I love winning and over powering guys but mostly I enjoy meeting so many interesting people, traveling to exciting places and the physical rush and adrenaline you get after a good match with a worthy opponent.

You are pretty up-front about what your experience and skills, so what kind of people tend to book sessions with you ?
A whole range! Mostly I think it's guys attracted to strong athletic women or those who enjoy pain and domination. Most of my matches are comp or semi comp although I'm getting more requests for fantasy sessions.

Away from the mat, what do you do to unwind ?
I don't spend much time away but if I want to relax I read a good book or run a bubble bath.

Is there anything you really want to accomplish this year ?
I'll mainly be focusing on progressing my bjj skills and doing lots of competitions.

Lastly, why should people book a session with you ?
For the thrill of the fight, and to get your ass kicked by a girl of course!

On the mat : Miss Lina

It can be tricky to find wrestlers who are prepared to be interviewed and asked about themselves. Not everyone has something to say, or even if they have, don't necessarily want to say it to you ! This all means it is necessary to look for females who are involved in different fetishes, of which wrestling is one. With this in mind, I have been able to interview the stunning Miss Lina (www.misslina.com) who resides and practise her facesitting, domination, and wrestling in Bournemouth.

Who wouldn't want to ??

So Miss Lina, how long have you been wrestling ?
Miss Lina : I first started doing session wrestling about 8 years ago, in 2006.

Was it something that began with the other fetishes you do or was it part of an exercise routine?
I have always been an active person and have been training bjj, mma and other martial arts for quite some time but it was a friend of mine, Miss Zara, who since has retired, that got me involved with wrestling. She had been doing session wrestling for some time when we met at a corporal punishment photo shoot and it is through her that I got involved with session wrestling.

You're originally from Sweden   - is mixed wrestling popular over there, or is it harder to find ?

I think there is a fair bit of interest in mixed session wrestling in Sweden, I am contacted every so often by my fellow countrymen. However, with Sweden only having a population of about 9.5 million the demand is not quite as large as in, for example, the UK so that also limits the number of wrestlers working there.

Everyone remembers their first wrestling experience. How did you first feel before and after you had yours?
My very first wrestling tournament was for Femwin and I remember being extremely nervous before getting there. I can't actually remember the results from the matches but the main thing I came away from the tournament with was how much I enjoyed it and how friendly and nice everyone was, both wrestlers and spectators.

Several female wrestlers do fetish modelling as well as wrestling – why do you think that is? Do you think the two go together?
I think the two go very well together as wrestling is quite often seen as a fetish by a lot of people. Most of the wrestlers I know are very comfortable with who they are and don't mind being in front of a camera so to me it is quite a natural combination.

When people wrestle you, do they have a choice of what you wear?
Obviously if someone wants a semi-comp/comp session it is restricted to clothing that is not going to be obstructive while wrestling but if it is a fantasy session it can be pretty much anything.

I know there are several companies often feature topless or nude matches which can be quite lucrative. Is that something you would ever consider?
Personally I don't do nude wrestling. I am happy to do topless wrestling if it is with another female but I never do mixed wrestling topless.

You are based in Bournemouth. Do you find it restrictive being in one place ? Do you ever travel to wrestle ?
I do travel on occasion but that is mainly when I fancy a change of scenery. I generally find myself very busy with sessions here in Bournemouth so I don't need to travel unless I want to.

You offer a wide range of wrestling sessions, including oil and fully competitive. What kind of wrestling do you prefer the most ?
The reason I offer a variety of sessions is that I would get a bit bored if they were constantly the same. One of the things I love about doing sessions is the variety if offers. Every person I see likes to do something different and it never gets boring.

What do you personally enjoy about wrestling ? Is it connected to your love of domination or other things ?
Wrestling sessions to me are great and I love the variety they offer. Whether it is the fantasy version, where I get to overpower the burglar and make them regret breaking in and I get to air my dominant side. Or it is a semi-comp/comp session where I get to practise my skill.

Being a session wrestler also lets me meet a lot of people from all different walks of life and places and it gives the opportunity to travel and see many different places and things.

I imagine you have wrestled men as well as women – besides men being (usually) stronger than women, what other differences do you find ? Also, do you have a preference?
I personally don't mind whether I wrestle men or women but apart from the obvious strength difference there is also the size and weight.

If I was to generalise on a competitive level; When I wrestle women they tend to be other session wrestlers so they have a higher skill level. I mainly tend to wrestle men for private sessions and unless they have a background in, for example, judo or bjj they tend to mainly rely on their size and strength advantage, not so much technique.

There seems to have been a rise in the amount women who offer wrestling as a fetish. Why do you think there has been an increase?
I would say that it is mainly down to the internet making it known to people that there is such a thing as mixed session wrestling. By making it more readily available it has broadened the audience a lot on both the supply and demand side. I also think by being more readily available it has helped lift the "social stigma" attached to fetishes in general by making people realise that they are not the only ones interested in this.

What does Miss Lina do away from wrestling to unwind ?
Well, I don't actually get away from wrestling too much as one of my favourite hobbies is bjj but apart from that I do like taking my 4 dogs out for walks and I love reading and travelling. I even manage to fit some horse riding in every so often.

Finally, why should people consider wrestling you ?
I have many years experience as a mistress which comes in very handy for the fantasy sessions. I love role-plays and I am happy to act out most scenarios. I have been training bjj and other martial arts for many years and currently have a blue belt in bjj, which gives me an edge for the competitive sessions and I am able to give people a proper match.

However, I think one of the main reasons why someone should come and see me for a session is that I am a person who has a genuine love for the sport.
Okay that's great. Thanks a lot for speaking to me.

On the Mat : the enthralling Minxy Li

I love long, detailed interviews but they don't always happen. You can prepare a list of questions and sometimes the reponses are short, vague or non-existent. However, this time I got what I was looking for : long, detailed and personal.

So for those of us who enjoy some detail and insight, below are Minxy's answers to the questions I put to her.

So Minxy. How has your year been?
Minxy: I have had a busy year indeed. Over the last 11 months or so, I have travelled extensively (Geneva, Paris, Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, NYC, North Carolina, and Chicago). On top of this I have been wrestling in London, I have participated in a number of events at the London Wrestling Studio (where I am based), Dee’s Wrestling Den (for MWW), FEMWIN in NYC, and a last minute stand in at Monica’s.
Whilst doing these things. I have been continuously building and maintaining my social network presence, training several times a week in the gym and fight club, somewhere between all of this I have tried to get my necessary uni work completed too. Even more recently I have also set up my clips store, so I have also begun to record, edit, and sell these clips.
I was a newbie last year, so I was not as busy as I am now.

Any highlights from the past 12 months?
So many. This year has been mind blowing to the point that normal life at home seems like time is standing still. Everything has been a highlight, but a few would be.....
 · Touring Europe with my Safa Warda from Chicago

· Riding the downtown train and hitting the NYC streets with Venom in NYC
· Filming some fun Clips with Tia in the Summer. The MWU promo clip was one day of fun and it is legendary.
-All three wrestlers named above have become the most amazing friends and business partnerships.
· Meeting the awesome Doom Maidens team who are fantastic people in the business, and fantastic people in life.
· Being taken to Buffalo Wild Wings by DJ of MWU. I dream of those nachos and wings each time I am raging hungry!
· My last minute stand in and victory at Monica’s summer event against Ionna from Bulgaria. No one was more surprised than I was! (Anyone who knows me, knows my phobia for anyone from a country with a name ending in the letters ‘aria’).

· Wrestling the powerhouse Anna Konda in Berlin and surviving. I even actually got a tap out too!!!! She has also become a wonderful friend and adviser.

· Teaming up with Tia to make our own video store and planning future video clips.

Are you someone who likes being busy and likes to keep her diary full ?
I do like to be busy and have a full diary. It provides a peace of mind to know that there is a line-up of work and opportunities. I also have an active mind, so I like to be active or I become restless.
When I am not working, I will spend my time in the gym (indulging in some steam and sauna after my work out, because I have the time) or in my fight club. If I have more spare time, I will catch up with my friends, or just have a duvet day and watch lots of box sets.

Tell me how you got involved in wrestling ?
I got involved in wrestling just over a year ago (late summer/autumn 2012). I was fed up with working in environments where politics is a more important factor than skill and productivity. I also needed flexible hours to work around my university classes, and assignments. I sat and talked with my friend Samantha, a wrestler (unknown to me at the time). She suggested why don’t you become a wrestler? I told her it was ridiculous, I did not know how to wrestle. She told me that I can be trained, then introduced me to Honey. I talked Honey to death. She trained me I loved it. Samantha TOLD me that my name had to be Minxy, because I am minxy. -And the rest is history!

You do modelling too. Is it fetish modelling ? Were you involved in that before wrestling or.......
I do some modelling. I have not done, or been asked to do any fetish work. I wouldn’t mind doing some rubber/PVC type stuff (every woman loves a bit of shiny material clinging to her body), but I do have my boundaries. I have modelled in the past, but never made it an occupation.

So at the moment do you see yourself as more of a model or a wrestler, or something else entirely ?
I am Minxy Li! Lol.

At the moment there seem to be 2 sides : females who practice martial arts and have also started wrestling, and those females who are models and have then started wrestling. Is that how you see it ?
Yes, I agree with this. There are many females who fit these two catagories, but there are also the everyday ladies who stumbled upon the industry and became wrestlers. This is where I would put myself on the list. There are also many fitness people, ie personal trainers, and body building competitors, who have branched out into wrestling.

There seem to be a lot females wrestling these days. How competitive is it ?
There are many in London, that is for sure. The scene is saturated, some people are very competitive and would rather there are not so many other choices. However I believe if you work on yourself, what you do, and bring your own individuality to the table; it won’t matter how many others are out there doing it. There can only ever be one you!

I make my own opportunities, and if it is a bit quiet on the home front, I travel. If you can’t bring the mountain to you, take yourself to the mountain.

I love taking part in mixed wrestling. For you, what are main differences between wrestling males and wrestling females, and which do you prefer?
This is such a frequently asked question. Men are more fun, usually far taller and heavier, but usually do cap their fighting spirit. By comparison, females usually smell better, but they can be mad crazy to win. Sometimes I can’t even let myself blink, because if I do, it’s game over for me! That is an intense way to pass 15 minutes of your life.

When we wrestle, we all like to win, but how important is it for you to have some kind of competition, rather than an easy match?
To me winning is a good thing, but the most important factor for me is to feel that I put my best efforts into a match. I hate it when I think I may have made myself vulnerable to attack, or I missed an opportunity. I try to use as much technique as I can, and overcome the opponent’s offence. Most important I do not want to be afflicted with any injuries. If I can meet this tick list, then I have already won, whether I tapped, or lost. A good effort without injuries is a victory for me, winning the match is the cherry on the cake.

As for an easy match, if you ask any female wrestler, we would all like those now and again. Sometimes we are tired, or we want to get it over with. If anyone says different, I would not believe them.

Do you wrestle at any particular locations ? Would you travel to different parts of the U.K. ?
I wrestle at my wrestling home, which is LWS. Honey gives me the freedom to move around and wrestle in other places. So if I am invited to another venue in London or the UK, I will inform Honey, and she gives me her blessing. This is a standard etiquette that I display for my management. I would never do anything which she is not happy with. I have wrestled at other studios in the local London area, I would like to travel to Manchester in the future. Venom and I have also discussed some future plans to travel across the UK. I just need to get my university course completed, then the world is my oyster!

Away from what your day job, what do you do to switch off and unwind ?
As mentioned earlier, I like a duvet day. That is my real ‘stop the world, I want to get off’ pastime. I will not tweet or FB, I do not open the curtains, and I will not cook. I love this indulgence, but I cannot do it for more than one day at a time, unless I’m sulking. Hehe.
If I am feeling a bit livelier, I am partial to a plethora of cocktails and dancing the night away with a friend in one of my favourite Soho night spots.

Christmas is around the corner. How will you be spending it ?
I am not yet sure. I do not have a family to spend Christmas with. Each year one of my friend’s will invite me over to spend with their family. It has been this way for years. It is nice to know that I have a great circle of friends. But every now and again, I just stay in bed and have a duvet day.

What would Minxy Li like for Christmas ?
My two front teeth!? -Oh I don’t know. I love handbags, shoes, and gadgets. Perfume, bikinis, and wrestling outfits are handy too. In reality though, I don’t really receive pressies, and I am not a materialistic person (but I always enjoy and appreciate receiving, and giving). There are people all over the world who do not even have clean water or food, or their physical abilities. I always keep this in mind. The best gifts I have are my wonderful friends, my mind, and my ability to make my opportunities work. (Now you can all go and be sick!)

Thanks a lot for speaking to me. Have a great Christmas.......(and I'd love to take you on sometime).

On the Mat : Pippa L'Vinn

For the uninitiated, Pippa is the boss of The Wrestling Factory in Manchester  (www.thewrestlingfactory.com)   which has some of the best facilities in the U.K. (maybe the best ?) : mat rooms, a messy room and a full wrestling ring can be be found under one roof. Pippa has been involved in the wrestling scene for a while and her fearsome skills led her to being the P.G.W.A.Champion 2002 - 2005 and the N.P.W.A. Ladies Champion : so basically she knows her stuff (and more).

I've been to The Wrestling Factory several times and have taken on different girls each time, and I have wrestled Pippa a few times too - quick, skillful and can give you a match as difficult as you want, because basically she is always going to win. So if you want a real test of hold, moves and speed then Pippa will match you all the way and more.

Also, this Saturday is the annual Jingle Belles show which is a real treat for all fans of fem-fem wrestling ! You can also wrestle some of the girls there as well - always good ! I won't be able to go (bad planning on my part), but you lucky lot could ? So what are you doing this Saturday ????

So on a chilly November, I started by asking the boss about her year.......

Pippa : Well the year has been okay, I mean it has its usual mix of ups and downs like any year ! This time of year can be more difficult as it gets more difficult to heat the Factory as it gets a bit chilly, so we have to warm it up in other ways (laughs).

You've been a feature of female U.K. wrestling for a while. How did you first become interested in it ?
Well like many things in life, it was a happy accident. I had been looking to get into some sort of fitness and sports work and I had done judo for a while........so I kind of fell into it...........I got the opportunity and never looked back. The rest is history !

At that time, were there many women doing it ?
No not really, just a handful. Certainly not as many as today !

When did you start seeing it as a career and not just a hobby?
Well the work started to come in thick and fast, which was great of course, and there was also tours of Ireland, so it just took over without noticing it ! To do it professionally travelling is a big part of the job and it took up lots of my time - but I was prepared to do it as I loved it so much.

How has the whole wrestling scene changed over the years ?
Well there are certainly more females and it has diversified into different types - more fantasy stuff. There are also lots of independent companies around, which gives you a lot of choice, and the internet has obviously made a big difference to accessing it.

You must have wrestled in many different locations. What exotic places have you wrestled in ?
Oh yeah loads ! Loads of travelling to different places. For example, Ireland, France, Belgium, South Africa, the U.S., Manchester (laughs)!

Do you find you prefer to wrestle men or women ?
I really don't mind. I'll take on anyone. I don't mind who I wrestle, as long as I win !!

Was it always your intention to have your own wrestling venue?
No, it just evolved. I wanted to get into training other wrestlers and help them, especially the new ones, but I never thought I end up setting this up ! It's worked out really well though.

It must be hard to go from being just a wrestler, to being a wrestler that hires other wrestlers too. What would you say the most difficult part of hiring people is ?
I love working with other ladies and I'm a friendly, sociable person (usually !) and a good talker, so it's all good ! The hours can be a pain sometimes as they are very unsociable and a lot of weekend work, but apart from that I have no concerns.

When I first came to The Wrestling Factory, I was really impressed that you had a full size wrestling ring there too. There can't be many places in the U.K. that have one !
I hope everybody loves my place, i am really proud of it. Not sure there is anything just like mine !!!

There seem to be loads of female wrestlers around nowadays - so is the wrestling scene more competitive now ?
Yes ! It is more competitive now but that is a really good thing. It makes people work harder and better you see, which can only be a good thing in my book.

You look great. Do you have a favourite wrestling outfit ?
(Laughs) Well I have all sorts, as you can imagine from someone who has been doing this for ages ! So you name it I've probably got it. I don't have a favourite but I do like the colour black !

Away from the mat, how do you like to switch off and unwind ?
Working out in the gym takes my mind off things, I love going running with my friend, seeing my family, walking my dog...........

Christmas is nearly here. Are you a Christmas person or do you prefer to be working ?
I like a few days off visiting my sister and family, but otherwise I prefer to work and go to the gym as I get bored easily (laughs). So a few days is enough for me and then back into it !

What is on your Christmas list ?
For my Christmas wish......well...... a nice big Christmas Dinner which my sister cooks is always great, she is an awesome cook. Also, there was a song years ago I think, "All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth", so I'd like them back !

The exercise regime

I'm keeping on top of the whole exercise thing, combining a mix of YAYOG - check out www. marklauren.com to find the only fitness/workout book I have ever followed from the start and I am still using it over a year later - hot yoga and Pilates. And also a lack of pizza (although I have just ordered 2 - doh !).

The whole lose weight but lose size conundrum is very much in effect, as in the weight goes from wherever it wants and my trousers are coming loose and the belt needs more notches, yet I don't want to go too far to go skinny. My shoulders don't look as big as they used to be (I don't mean they were ever huge etc). I told me friends last night it was part of a new "lean" look, which they kind of didn't believe. So am I too thin now ? I keep changing my mind and it often depends on when I choose to look in the mirror. My stomach is flatter definitely, which is good, but has the muscle mass suffered ? I think so.

Anyway, I haven't done a regular program like this for years, so this has to be a good thing. The thing is, when do you decide to buy new clothes - I mean, when do you accept or believe that this is going to be your weight so you buy 32 inch trousers instead of the usual 34 (why the hell can't you buy more 33 inch ??). I'm going to hang fire on this, as I do like being 34, but can't sustain being 34 without increasing belly size. Anyway, we will see...........
